Black History Month and Eating Disorder Week

Today marks the start of Black History Month, when we recognize the enormous positive impact that those of African and Caribbean descent have had on Alberta.

I believe that we are stronger because of our diversity - it enriches our culture, bolsters our economy, and strengthens our moral fabric in Alberta.

If you have time this month, please check out some of the Black History Month events throughout Edmonton listed here:

Couple days ago was Bell's Let's Talk Campaign on mental illness. Today launches Alberta wide eating disorder week; which is also a form of illness that people do not have a choice to have or not to have the illness. Edmonton Eating Disorder program has 12 dedicated clinic beds, while there are over 500 eating disorder referrals every year. We need to do better, please wear purple to bring awareness to this illness that impact so many lives. For more information on Eating Disorder, please visit Eating Disorder Support Network of Alberta, you are not alone.

Treaty 8 Political Forum

Treaty 8 political forum tonight was first of its kind where diverse political parties met with Elders and leaders. Treaty 8 youths were really represented tonight and I loved seeing couple of my nephews represent their Nation so strongly.

Thank you Stephen Mandel for your leadership and thank you to my fellow Alberta party candidates for coming out, we make a great team and we will make a fantastic government!

We need to do better, We will do betterAlberta Party, a party for all of us!

Millennial Inclusion

I always say that we need to get the youth, the “millennials” involved as they are our future leaders and I enjoy getting input from them. I was at a store today buying gloves for door knocking and I started talking to one of the store staff and he talked about how sales are down due to the economy and people not having much money these days and politics came into the conversation.

He said that he just turned 18 years old and that he has an interest in politics and we had a good candid conversation. This young man had many valuable things to say 👏

I gave him one of my cards encouraging him to contact me if he’s wants to participate little more in the upcoming election.
